John Brawley, Executive VP and CFO Maverick Natural Resources
John was appointed as Executive Vice President & CFO of Maverick Natural Resources, LLC (“Maverick”) in September of 2018. Maverick is an oil-focused exploration and production company active in the development and production of long-lived oil and gas reserves across the United States. Maverick has 240 employees and produces over 35,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Maverick took over management of the assets previously owned by Breitburn Energy Partners (“Breitburn”). Immediately following Breitburn’s emergence from restructuring, in conjunction with a new CEO, Mr. Brawley was selected to lead the newly formed Maverick to take over management of Breitburn Energy Partner’s assets. Maverick is majority-owned by EIG Global Energy Partners (more than $30.8 billion committed in 347 portfolio investments in 36 countries).
Prior to joining Maverick, John served as SVP of Capital Markets, M&A, and Treasurer at Sandridge Energy in Oklahoma City. Mr. Brawley was with Sandridge from 2014 to 2018 where he initially joined as CFO of CEBA Midstream (the midstream subsidiary of Sandridge Energy) to take public their SWD system. Mr. Brawley prepared CEBA Midstream for IPO, filing an S-1 registration statement in 2015. Following the oil price collapse in 2015, John moved from CEBA Midstream to the corporate leadership of SandRidge where he executed a $1.75 billion financing to improve liquidity, followed by $1 billion in a series of creative debt reduction transactions. Following a second price collapse in early 2016, Mr. Brawley led Sandridge Energy through its $4.7 billion restructuring. Following restructuring, Mr. Brawley was promoted by the new Board of Directors to SVP of Capital Markets where he executed numerous transactions on behalf of the company. Mr. Brawley left Sandridge Energy in the summer of 2018 to join Maverick Natural Resources as Executive Vice President and CFO.
Mr. Brawley has held numerous senior leadership roles in public companies, including Chief Financial Officer of both midstream and upstream companies. He also served as Co-Head of the Guggenheim Mezzanine Energy Finance Houston office. John holds a BA in Economics and Biological Sciences from Rice University and an MBA from the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University
In total, Mr. Brawley has executed over 47 transactions for a total value of in excess of $16 billion. His transaction experience includes: Acquisitions, Divestitures, M&A, Restructurings, RBLs, High Yield Debt, Public Equity Issuance and other complex financial transactions.
